Technically, the diaphragm, located between your lungs and stomach, pulls down when you inhale air into your lungs and then relaxes when you exhale. But, sometimes, there are ‘things’ that irritate the diaphragm and it can spasm, pushing you to suck air suddenly into your throat, and it hits your voice box.
